After a very snowy first few days of Feb and with snow piled high along the driveway and other shoveled parts we got a break in the below freezing temperatures. Yesterday it was in the 40's and today high 40's. Feels like the end of March instead of the last day (leap year 29th) of Feb. Lily and I went for a long walk after Mass today. We walked down by the river and Lily loved the slushy snow and puddles. After romping around and getting fairly wet and dirty from the "backsplash" we headed home. But when we got back it was so nice out we stayed outside. I checked the gutters, filled birdfeeders, vacuumed the car. Still have good snowcover on the gardens. The melting snow is running down the roof and gutters and sounds like a brook.
It's like driving into a canyon when come in or out of the driveway with the snow piled up so high on both sides. Difficult to shovel and throw the snow up over the top now. Snowpile car height on both sides of the car park and over my head high on the west side of drive. Had to dig the mailbox out. Lot of snow on roofs of course and last night weatherman warned of ice dams- Winter in Minn.
Snowed 6 inches yeaterday, 7 inches today. Glad to get it. Took 2 hrs each day to shovel the driveway but it was great aerobic exercise. Temps are above zero in day and below zero overnight. Low yesterday minus 18, high today 34 above- 50 plus degrees warmer in just a few hrs. It's so beautiful and quiet outside with all the snow. The tree branches are heavy with snow and the weight of it falls off the heavy braches causing a domino effect with a great flurry of falling snow. I have been busy refilling the birdfeeders and brushing the snow off. Gave the squirrls corn cobs and brazil nuts left uneaten by us. Lots of nuthatches, chickadees, cardinals, finches, and snowbirds. At one time the front feeder had 10 cardinals at one time.
