This morning I was sitting in my favorite red chair watching the birds, sipping coffee, and embroidering when a beautiful medium sized hawk few down and landed on top of the wooden birdfeeder. All the other birds scattered and so did Sally cat. The hawk stayed there looking around for several minutes. This is the first time I saw a hawk in my yard. Maybe he was migrating up north to Hawk Ridge and beyond.
For the last 2 nights the temp has been above freezing overnight with temps in the 40's during the day so the snow piles are melting. Jim and I have both been chopping away and spreading out the snow/ice piles along the driveway and by the front window to speed the process along. Temp today was in the 60's and sunny. But I was inside all day at St Stephens helping with funeral lunch from 10:30 am to 2:30. Afterwards Lily and I went for a long walk.
March weather is strange. Last monday, 5 days ago, we had a sudden cold front meet 50 degree weather in western Minn and 20 degree temp here and had a sudden unexpected snowstorm of 1 inch/hr to an accumulation of 3 inches. It caused a 25 car pileup on I 94 and 280, and many many other accidents. week we'e had snow about every other day with temps below freezing and occ temp above for a few hrs only so that any snow melt during the day freezes at night. Our yard is still 60 to 60% snow/ice covered. Herb garden still completely covered. Roof snow free for a couple of days. It rained this am when the temp was 40 degrees and it hailed a few min ago.
After the 2 days or so of warmer weather it turned cold again . The yard is still 80% snow covered, or I should say frozen solid icy snow. The snow is gone from the roof except for a small amout on north side above the door.
