Rained 1 1/2 inches last evening. First rain of any significance since june. I notice last week a coule of maple trees in the neighborhood turned orange already, and other trees losing leaves or looking limp. The rain came down so hard it was running down the street. The gutters got blocked with debris that the heavy rain had clumped together. Jim got on the roof today to clear out the gutters.
Colors in the herb garden so soothing. The colors just flow together so nicely along with the formal layout of the design. It really turned out well. Right now the gray artesmias, satolina, white feverfew, white/green pineapple sage, white Echinacea, white flowers of garlic chives, blue southernwood, ornamental onion, anise hyssop, lavender, purple and pink hyssop, pink and blue clary sage, gomphrena, the various thymes and sages, yarrow and tansy. A here's a comic sight of the day but with no one to see it except Lily--I'm on the W side of the garden shed pulling at a hose to move a sprinkler and I'm walking backward and bump into the birdbath and lose my balance falling backward sitting in the birdbath. Would have been a good one for video. O well, the cool water did feel good.
Picked my first tomato of the year, nice big red one. One slice big enough to cover a slice of bread. Had a BLT of course. I planted 4 zuccini plants but so far the squash barely gets going and it's gone. Rabbits I suppose. Guess I'll be going to the Farmer's Market for those.
There are acorns on the ground already, and plently of them. That is suppose to mean a hard winter but I think maybe the trees are stressed out from lack of water. Some leaves are turning yellow already. I have been watering a lot as my water bill shows.
