« Glacial Ridge | Main | Last Day of the Year »

End of Garden Season.

The recycling truck picked up the last 2 bags of pine needles yesterday. Raking is done for the year. Filled up 4 compost bills in all. Have one bag of needles to tuck around tender perineals once the ground freezes up. Mt xmas cactus, which I've had for at least 5 years, has finally bloomed. It hadn't bloomed since the time I bought it. Must have done something right. Left it outside all summer hanging from the apple tree. Gave it a good dose of fertilizer end of sept and left the plant outside until the temp turned quit cool and then brought it inside and left it in a darkened garage about early oct. Low and behold it developed buds and is full of flowers now-beautiful.
