Mid February

After our almost snowless December and warm January we are now getting below zero temps every night for 10 days and it barely warms up during the day. We had a 60 hr stretch of around the clock below zero temps s week ago. But its almost Valentines Day so spring in within reach-almost. Garden catalogs keep coming. I"ve ordered a birdfeeder and some metal sunflowers for garden decoration. I also picked up some seeds- nasturtium, zinnia, globe amarrath and a couple others.

Arctic Blast

Our meek and mild winter turned bitter cold last week. Starting last saturday we had below zero temps. Had to really warm up our cars. Yesterday Jim's car wouldn't start (minus 17 degrees) so he took my car to work. Had motor club tow truck jump start the car and then took it and got a new battery. Tow it snowed maybe 2 inches thank goodness. So far we have had minimal snowfall and I'm sure some of the plants are gone, The holly is looking sunscalded. My gardens are pretty much how I want them so I hope I don't lose too many plants- some of them are hard to find and then its takes several seasons for them to get a mature size and full flowered. Today after shoveling the driveway I spent considerable time shoveling snow on my gardens- better late then never. Lily Beagle is doing well and we are going on some walks of 1/2 mile or so. She still hesitates sometimes when doing some things, like going down the bedroom stairs, but she has no trouble going up the same stairs. When she jumps up on a couch she sets herself just right before jumping.
